IDS: Refocusing my final project
Today as part of my IDS project, I rethought my goals for the end of my inquiry, and decided on a new way to show my learning.
My original plan for my final IDS project was to compose 2 full songs in 2 different styles of exploration; one trap instrumental, and one military-style march song.
However, through the process of my inquiry, I discovered there were a few issues with this:
- My original plan limited me to 2 specific styles, and essentially voided any exploration outside of those styles
- The song concepts I created and composed that weren’t part of those styles (eg. a folk-style canon, a metalcore riff) would have to be discarded and couldn’t be used to demonstrate my growth
- 2 fully composed songs wasn’t a realistic end goal
- Electronic production techniques, based on my brief exploration, are very tangential to the majority of my project
- A big part of my project is based on an exploration of guitar composition techniques, which are difficult to apply to my current styles
For my new plan, I’ve decided to create a certain number of draft songs, with one fully composed and instrumented song. So far, I would estimate 4-6 songs in total to be reasonable by the end of my project.
