IDS: Drill VS Trap
Today as part of my IDS project, I listened to and read about the hip-hop subgenres of trap and drill, in order to understand the distinction between the two.
Trap is a modern subgenre of hip-hop that originated from the southwest United States, that distinguishes itself from older styles through a focus on fast hi-hats, auto-tune, more melodic flows, and a generally greater focus on electronic production.
Drill can be seen as an evolution of trap, that originated recently in Chicago (and Brixton in the UK), that utilizes even more auto-tune, slower tempos at 60-70 beats per minute, and much more aggressive lyrics that focus on gritty realisms and violence.
For my inquiry, I want to focus more on the genre of trap than on drill, so recognizing this will be extremely useful.
