IDS: Trap melodies

Today as part of my IDS project, I experimented with the trap genre, specifically how to make melodies and fit them into songs.

Trap is an interesting genre for many reasons. The first is obviously that it’s a very new genre, and so there isn’t much of a precedent, and very low amounts of documentation by traditional music theory sources. The second is that trap doesn’t follow many of the conventions of either classical or contemporary music; the balance between melody and bass, the section structure, and even the very purpose of the music differs greatly in trap compared to something like R&B.

This makes it very interesting to compose for, which is one of the reasons I chose it as one of the 3 genres I wanted to focus on.
